Gift Guide 2018

Looking for the perfect gift for a fiber-minded friend or family member? Need something to bring to your guild’s gift exchange? We’ve got you covered with this year’s Gift Guide, easily sorted into four different categories. Click on an item’s name in blue to be taken directly to that item’s page.

Stocking Stuffers – Small sized, relatively inexpensive gifts to plump up your loved one’s stocking.

Flicker – A versatile fiber prep tool that is a welcome addition to any fiber artist’s arsenal. These are $26 in the standard Alder Back with Maple Handle.

Diz – At $13, it’s hard to go wrong with this helpful tool that can be used with both combs and a drum carder.

2/3 Yard Niddy Noddy – This pocket-sized, $24 niddy noddy is great for workshops and retreats.

Spinning Wheel Oil – A small investment – $8 for a one ounce bottle – can save hours of frustration and extend the life of any spinning wheel.

Unicorn Power Scour/Fiber Wash/Fiber Rinse – The 4 oz. bottles range from $3.99 to $4.99 and are excellent stain removers in addition to their fleece cleaning abilities.

Guild Gift Exchange and Fiber Friends – These items are a little more spendy than Stocking Stuffers, but won’t break your gift budget.

Books – Continuing education is an integral part of any fiber artist’s journey.  We have a wide selection of our favorites from $14.95 to $46.95, covering everything from raising sheep to knitting ergonomically.

Hand Cards – Our Curved Back Wool and Cotton Cards are $100 and $105, respectively, and are built for a lifetime of use. Feel like splurging? Select Cherry, Padauk, or Purpleheart ($150-$190) from the drop down for a unique pair of hand cards that will become cherished heirlooms.

KCL Spindles – Made by our friends at KCL Woods, these spindles ($60-$85) feature burl wood and can also be purchased dyed or with a fun new paint dip option. Each one is a functional work of art.

Mugs –  These one of a kind, hand thrown ceramic mugs ($25) make a good gift for the fiber artist who already has all of the tools and fiber they need.

For Somone on the “Nice” List – If you’re one of Santa’s Elves this year, putting one of these under the tree will surely land you on next year’s “Nice” list.

Good Clean Fiber Club Subscription – Have you overheard a friend or loved one lamenting the process of skirting and washing dirty, greasy fleece? Give the gift of 4 ounces of clean, washed, premium fleece delivered four times a year for as little as $14 per month.

Blending Board – The ultimate woolen fiber prep tool comes in Cherry at $255 as well as Walnut and other specialty woods at $310-$340.

When You are on the “Naughty” List – Did you forget an anniversary or birthday this year? While we also suggest throwing in a foot rub or two, these might at least get you from the doghouse to the downstairs couch.

Standard Series Drum Carder – These no-frills workhorses are easy on the budget ($560-$725) and on fiber.

Elite Series Drum Carders – The top of the line carders made anywhere in the world come with a full set of tools to process any type of fiber. At $1125, the Elite Convertible is a hand crank unit that can later be converted to Electric Drive; at $2150, the Crankless has a built-in motor for hands-free and enjoyable carding for hours on end.

Bonus Category: The gift of wool! While these can’t be ordered direct through us, we recommend each of these for handmade gifts made of wool. They are also local for those of you in Northern California.

GynnaMade – Socks made on an antique circular sock machine by Roy’s wife, Gynna. From commercial to indie dyed to locally sourced yarn, there’s a pair of custom knit socks to fit your gifting budget.

Northern California Fibershed Marketplace – This recently-launched website has everything from clothing to housewares so you can give the gift of wool to friends and family who aren’t fiber artists.
