Bespoke Baby Blankets with Stephanie Pearl-Mcphee
Workshop Description: In our family, we’ve got a baby blanket tradition. Each newborn is welcomed with a unique, bespoke baby blanket. Each blanket has stitch patterns chosen to represent that child’s family and heritage. In this class, we’ll learn how to rig one of these beauties – how to choose yarns and stitch patterns that will work together, how to calculate when and how to move from the centre to the borders, or the borders to the edging, how to turn corners, block, and more. Much of what we’ll cover also applies to shawls – so come ready to be creative.
Student skill level: Intermediate. Students should be able to adeptly cast on, cast off, increase, decrease, and be experienced in following a simple chart.
Students to bring: You’ll need approximately 100m (110 yards) of a smooth, solid and light coloured fingering weight wool, two 4mm circular needles, and your standard notions kit. Please also bring note taking materials, and any stitch patterns or dictionaries you think are terrific.
Materials fee: None. Coffee, continental breakfast, and vegan-friendly buffet lunch are provided.
Date and Time: Wednesday, October 14, 2020. 9am-4pm.
