Lock Pop

$138.00

The Lock Pop is both a versatile stand alone fiber preparation tool and a great tool to pop open a lock before carding or combing. By popping a lock up and down a few times on the teeth, then pulling it through the teeth of the Lock Pop, the lock will often be spinnable as is, and will be ready for hand cards, a drum carder, blending board, hackle, or combs. Each Lock Pop comes with Free Shipping in the U.S.

Designed with speed and efficiency in mind, the Lock Pop functions equally well as a standalone tool and as an opener before carding or combing. The Lock Pop excels at:

  • Loosening tight tips
  • Removing vegetable matter
  • Quickly preparing fleece for spinning from the lock
  • Separating dual coated fleece
  • Opening slightly matted or felted fibers

Description

Product Description

Perhaps the best way to think of the Lock Pop is as an inverted flicker. It has the same curve as a flicker, but a much wider base to work with, taller and stronger teeth, and it clamps in place on the edge of a table or workbench. Rather than tapping and flicking with a flicker or hand card, tap and flick the lock against and then through the teeth of the Lock Pop. We have found the Lock Pop to be much more ergonomic and efficient than flicking.

The Lock Pop measures 6-3/8″ wide, 3-1/8″ deep, and 2-1/2″ tall. It uses a 72 TPI carding cloth. The included clamp can attach to a table or workbench from 3/4″ to 4″ in thickness.

Handy tool - nicely made

The Lock Pop seems like a very nice addition to my little arsenal of fiber processing tools (hand cards, combs, flicker, pet comb). So far I'm finding it more ergonomic to use than a flicker. The Lock Pop is impressive at getting the VM out of a lock of fleece. ALL the VM falls out, even sticky seeds. The Lock Pop is nicely designed - it's clear that Clemes and Clemes has considered the exact height and curve to use for the wood block, as well as the specs for the carding cloth. It's a satisfyingly attractive tool - since for me fleece processing is about going into a relaxing, meditative mode, the look and feel of the tools I use is also part of the enjoyment. I am guessing my Lock Pop will last a long time, as long as I follow the technique on the Clemes and Clemes video, where you pop the lock onto the carding cloth gently until it opens up, then draw the lock through the wires, which cleans it like magic.

A lovely tool I use to open dense cut ends before combing.
