Corriedale

This crossbreed is unique in that most producers breed long wools with short wools, or coarse wools to fine ones. This cross, however, is between two our our favorite medium wools. The result is a 3.5″ to 4″ lock with a medium hand and heavy sproing or snap back. The chocolate brown locks end in blonde tips that are easy to open and process.

A variegated charcoal and gray Corriedale fleece with locks measuring three to four inches in length. This fleece has a softer than expected feel for Corriedale.

A variegated brown, gray, and tan Corriedale that comes from a flock bred for fineness. Staples average 3.5″ to 4″ in length, but are considerably softer than your average Corriedale.

A creamy white Corriedale that comes from a flock bred for fineness. Staple length is around 4 inches. This fleece is considerably softer than your average Corriedale.

A multiple-breed crossbred fleece that can best be described as an improved Corriedale. It is equaly parts Corriedale, Romney, and Romeldale. With french fry style locks measuring 5.5″ in length, this fleece will be a dream to process and spin. Color is mostly chocolate brown with some tan on the tips. This is a spectacular fleece that just missed out on being a Bliss fleece (to another fleece from the same flock).

Here’s a crossbreed you don’t see every day! This is actually the first time we’ve seen one of these, and it’s quite interesting. It has shades of light and dark gray, mostly indistinct locks of about 5″ in length, and has a softer hand than you would expect for a cross of a medium and long wool.

Here we have a nice 3-way cross: CVM x Corriedale x Lincoln. This fleece has it all! Color: light gray to medium gray to dark gray with a touch of medium brown. Crimp: nice Corriedale type crimp. Length: 5-inches. Lock Structure: distinct individual locks like a Lincoln with lots of curls. Hand: soft like a fine CVM. Overall a very nice fleece and an excellent spinners fleece.

This unique fleece comes from a producer that features a Merino x Lincoln x Cormo x Wensleydale crossbreed. This fleece is 50% Corriedale and 50% of that four-way cross. The result is a 5″ long fleece; it is black in color with hints of brown and gray and a french fry staple like you would expect with Corriedale, but with a softer hand than is typical for a pure Corriedale.

A 5″ long crossbreed with a medium hand. Mostly charcoal but exhibiting some light gray variegations. This fleece exhibits charasteristics of all three of its compenent breeds; variegated color from the CVM, good french fry crimp from the Corriedale, and length and strength from the Wensleydale.

A rare 5-way crossbreed in which a purebred Leicester Longwool was bred with a sheep that was equal parts Corriedale, Lincoln, Cotswold, and CVM. The result is a 5″ long staple with a hand that isn’t soft but also isn’t too coarse. This would be a good fleece for a sweater or socks.
