As with most white fleece, there is some occassional yolk stain in this fleece; it will blend into a creamy white once prepared for spinning or felting. This fleece comes from Australian breeding stock and looks and feels more like a Merino than the typical Corriedale we see here in the US.

Like most fleece of this breed, the color, handle, and length vary throughout the fleece. For the most part, this fleece has a medium hand and measures three to four inches in length. The vegetable matter content is relatively low considering what we typically see from this rare breed, though there is some dirt in the tips that will come out easily during processing. Florida Cracker is listed on the National Livestock Conservancy’s Priority Conservation List and each order of four ounces or more will include a Shave ‘Em to Save ‘Em Passport sticker.

Imperfect Lincoln #418072

As is sometimes the case with long wools, this one has dirt and vegetable matter that did not come out in the wash, and is lightly felted in spots. It will need some work with a flicker or Lock Pop, but the resulting fleece will be long, mildly lustrous, and have gorgeous depth of color. As an Imperfect fleece, its pricing reflects the additional processing it will take.

This fleece has a medium hand that probably is not soft enough for next to skin use for most people. It is charcoal gray to black with sunkissed brown and blonde tips. Locks are around 4″ in length and process easily. We did find some sporadic tender spots on the butt/cut end of this fleece, but not throughout. With little experience with this breed, we are not sure if that is a breed characteristic or unique to this fleece. Overall, this looks to be a fun new breed to work with!
