This is a gorgeous example of this rare breed. It is five to six inches in length, has a medium hand, and sports a variety of gray hues with a high sheen. A variegated gray Leicester Longwool fleece with locks measuring around four inches in length. As the name implies, this is a long wool fleece, but this producer shears twice annually, resulting in the relatively shorter length which is more manageable for both the producer and the fiber artist. This fleece has a bit of sheen and a medium to coarse hand. Leicester Longwool is a Shave ‘Em to Save ‘Em breed, and each order of four or more ounces will include a SE2SE passport sticker.

A very long Lincoln fleece with thick, dense locks measuring nine to eleven inches in length. These lustrous locks feature a variety of shades from silver to dark gray and tan to dark brown. As is common in fleece this long, this Lincoln is lightly matted and will need some hand teasing and opening with a flicker or Lock Pop prior to further prep or spinning from the lock. An intriguing four breed cross that resulted in a variegated fleece. While the length seems to be fairly uniform at around six inches, the color runs from white to light tan to light gray, while the locks structure runs from distinct and highly energized to amorphous and relaxed. This fleece has a relatively soft handle that will be next to skin soft for most people and will be interesting to process and spin.

A highly energized, creamy white Merino crossbreed fleece. This one could be the picture next to the dictionary entry for “sproing.” Much of this fleece resembles a BFL although it is a Merino crossbreed with a smattering of Cormo, Lincoln, and Wensleydale in its lineage. It measures 5″ when stretched, but relaxes to around 3 inches in length, and has a next to skin soft hand. This fleece has a little bit of dirt in the tips but don’t let that scare you off; it will fall out in the fiber prep stage.

This is our first offering of the Racka breed. It consists of a coarse guard hair that is as long as 11″ and a relatively soft undercoat as long as 5″ in length. This sheep is raised in a wildlife conservancy, so not much care was given to the quality of the fleece; as such it is lightly cotted and some vegetable matter in it. We recommend blending the two coats together, as trying to separate them will likely result in a large amount of waste. This fleece is mostly white and tan, but at time shows some browns and grays.
