We see a lot of this particular crossbreed, but this fleece is unique in that it looks mostly like a BFL fleece but with tips that are easy to open. The 6″ locks are mostly uniform in structure, and there is some yolk (yellowing) throughout the fleece.

It does have a little more vegetable matter than we like to see but that is something we have to live with when working with these rare breeds. You wouldn’t be tempted to call this gorgeous Bond fleece any color other than brown, but it’s a mix of medium browns and gray-browns, with a smattering of blonde tips. The bold, often indistinct locks measure around 4.5″ in length and have a medium to soft hand. Sold as a half fleece weighing 3.1 pounds.

This crossbreed is unique in that most producers breed long wools with short wools, or coarse wools to fine ones. This cross, however, is between two our our favorite medium wools. The result is a 3.5″ to 4″ lock with a medium hand and heavy sproing or snap back. The chocolate brown locks end in blonde tips that are easy to open and process.

It isn’t very often that you can say Merino added length in a crossbreed, but that’s exactly what happened in this pairing of short, fine breeds. A rarely-seen crossbreed whose lineage is nearly 90% Cormo. While this fleece retains the soft hand and energy of that breed, the Border Leicester imparts some length and easy to open tips. The locks are 3.5 to 4 inches long and are dark brown in color, with a hint of gray throughout and some sun blonde at the tips.
